解説

Examines the organizational structure of crime prevention in England and Wales between 1979 and 1996 with particular emphasis on events in the last two years. The text focuses on the relationship between the Home Office, police service, probation service, crime concern, NACRO, and local authority associations, as well as the definition of crime prevention in each organization. It presents in detail, the development of policy and decision-making in relation to crime prevention in this country and determines who influences this policy and how it is structured at a national level. It includes the minutes from the Association of Chief Police Officers sub-committee on crime prevention from their inaugural meeting in September 1986 until May 1995, and the Police Probationer Training Foundation Course manual. The book concludes that crime prevention policy has been very much influenced by the Conservative party, and in particular the identity of the Home Secretary and minister responsible for crime prevention. Crime prevention policy is forever changing, influencing government funding for different projects, increased individual responsibility and a diminishing role for the state in crime prevention are advocated.
