Companies must confront an increasingly tough competitive environment with lean, flexible and market-oriented structures. To accomplish this, they organize themselves according to their business processes which are usually optimized by means of information technology. The use of standard software in particular becomes an important element of information system planning and implementation. The author shows how a company can achieve its strategic goals through a business process oriented implementation of standard software. The necessary tools and methods are presented and explained by using case studies and the efficient use of reference models is described.
