This work aims to present a new perspective on the history of the Serbs in the 20th century; to view this historical period through the lives of its most significant Serb participants. Those individuals selected and profiled were in positions of power and influence and shaped the destiny of the Serbs. The contributors represent a wide range of backgrounds; they come from different countries, different academic disciplines, different intellectual traditions, and different generations. Given this diversity, no framework has been imposed for the approach of their writings, and no single set of is criteria used to evaluate their contributions.
