This volume studies all aspects of life in post-communist Czechoslovakia - political, economic, cultural, social and military. It traces the history of Czechoslovakia from the collapse of the communist regime through the "Velvet Divorce" and the formation of the Czech and Slovak states. It also illuminates the problems facing both republics and discusses the potential for the methods of achieving full "democratization", examining in detail both the process and the perils of "democratization" and how the attempt at its implementation led to the division of the Czechoslovak republic.
