Discussing the topic of migration in the 1990s, this work covers the whole of Europe, not just the EU. It connects theoretical debates about the underlying causes of spatial, economic and social change with detailed empirical work on people, jobs and economic restructuring in specific countries, regions and cities. This multi-layered topic is addressed through chapters which are conceptual and theoretical in content and through country and region specific case studies. The selection of the case studies is such to ensure that all the important types of regions described in the recent literature on economic restructuring will be taken into account.
