Changing the Wor(l)d is a powerful critique of the political science research and writing that has been done on the women's movement in the United States. Stacey Young argues that this work has privileged liberal feminism over other feminist activity, much of it more subversive and radical. Young also critiques this work for perpetuating the marginal status of lesbians, women of color, working class women and other groups who have historically been ignored by political scientists, even those who specialize in women and politics. Changing the Wor(l)d is grounded in a number of real-world case studies, which makes it particularly useful and important. Young focuses, for instance, on feminist publishing and the books it has produced, in order to provide political scientists and feminist theorists with an example of an alternative methodology that can help to transform the field of political science.
