Published in association with "The World Economy", this book is the first in an annual series that provides a summary of policy development, GATT-country reviews, and key facts and figures on international trade over the past year. Over a number of years, therefore, it should create a useful reference resource. Given the recent wide-ranging Uruguay-Round GATT agreement and the plan to create a World Trade Organization (WTO), the series acts as a vehicle for stimulating interest in current trade policy issues both at the "local" regional level and at the "global" level. Students, policy makers and businessmen should be able to use the series as an accessible source of summary information on the key international institutions, trade arrangements and agreements that affect international trade and investment.
