This work concentrates on key areas of the law of wars as it applies to decisions made on the battlefield in conventional, international armed conflicts. It deals with the rules on targeting, precautions in attack, precautions against attacks, protection of cultural property and the environment and the responsibility of commanders. The book discusses practical problems of international law arising in armed conflicts, illustrated by references to recent conflicts such as the Gulf War of 1990-91.
