This revised edition lists approximately 1200 libraries in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, some included for the first time, with details of their rare and special book collections. It covers mainly those printed before 1850, but includes manuscript and modern material where related. All major national and university libraries are included, as are collections in public libraries, schools, cathedrals, private societies and institutions. Accessible libraries of private indivdauls are included, plus an appendix on libraries in National Trust properties. Each entry is arranged by local government region and place, gives the name and information services available, followed by a description of the main collection, special or named collections held there, details of published catalogues and descriptive references.
