This book provides a systematic analysis of the position of young women who are deemed to be 'troublesome' and whose behaviour results in welfare intervention. The conflicting demands and expectations confronting teenage women are considered, with a particular emphasis on how major social institutions - social work, the law, and the family - define and deal with infringements of such expectations.
