解説
This work examines the links between the development of radical politics in 18th-century Ireland and Scotland. Focusing on the influence and involvement of the revolutionary society, "the United Irishmen", in Scottish society and politics, the book begins by tracing the evolution of an "ideological community" between radical Scottish and Irish presbyterians, going on to consider the development of practical organizational links and the subsequent formation of a Scottish revolutionary underground of "United Scotsmen" societies in 1796-7.
