This is the companion volume to "Industrial Relations in the New Europe", by the same editors. The team of contributors analyzes and explains the changes in European industrial relations, drawing on a range of empirical evidence. Each chapter examines and compares different national experiences to deal with such themes as: management strategy; the role of the unions; gender and the labour market; the EC dimension and "Social Europe". The contributors address a number of questions, such as: which economic, political, and institutional forces explain key developments in industrial relations?; how are we to explain continuing national diversity?; and what changes are likely in the future? This text also concentrates on developments in Eastern Europe. Three chapters examine, respectively, the work-place, trade unions and the creation of national industrial relations institutions.
