International relations are currently undergoing their most profound change since World War II. "End of the Cold War" and "Creation of a New World Order" are only two terms indicating that issues of armament and disarmament, conflicts and conflict resolution will have to be fundamentally reassessed in coming years. This book is intended as a contribution to the debate. A dozen experts survey and anlayze the main trends and changing patterns in the field of armament and disarmament during the 1980s. The authors also attempt to identify future trends for the 1990s. The contributions are arranged in four parts: arms and technologies; wars and conflict resolution; arms control and disarmament; and achievements and prospects.
