Commitment to the protection of the environment was consolidated on a formal treaty basis by the introduction of the Single European Act of 1986. This book discusses the reasons for EC involvement in the protection of the environment and the development of EC policy, and sets out and analyzes the main areas of EC activity. It concludes with the likely future developments of environmental policy in the Community and lists all relevant EC legislation. The author's previous publications include "The Institutional Framework of the European Communities" (1988) and "The Humber Estuary: Environmental Background" (1988).
