By fusing conceptual, historical and rhetorical approaches to thinking politically and to sociological analysis of political thought and culture, this book seeks to develop Rhetoric in an important new direction, European Union politics. In the everyday speech ‘political’ commonly alludes to partisanship or to expediency, as opposed to normative judgement, with the political mind we understand ‘political’ in a formal sense, as a way of thinking and judging the political aspect of any phenomena, leaving it to the actors to take stand on them. The authors seek to further analyse what could be called a ‘European style of politics’: textual strategies and rhetorical styles, that evolves in the EU’s supranational and national institutions.
