This guide introduces applied antiracist developmental science and developmental frameworks that have been comprehensively integrated with antiracist principles. It underscores the importance of viewing child and adolescent development-related work through an antiracist lens from the outset, examining how systemic racism, implicit bias, and critical consciousness shape human development and emphasizes the need to cultivate an antiracist developmental perspective to promote equity in professional settings.Anchored in the foundational bioecological model, the book extends to additional frameworks such as the Racism + Resilience + Resistance Integrative Study of Childhood Ecosystem (R (3)ISE), the Integrative Model of Ethnic Minority Development, the Multicontextual Model for Diverse Learning Environments, and the Phenomenological Variant of Ecological Systems Theory (PVEST). These frameworks are adapted to confront racism and support antiracist practice.Targeted discussions in dedicated chapters cover fields including psychology, PK-12 education, higher education, and allied health. The book bridges theory and practice through case studies, practical examples, and reflective activities, demonstrating how to incorporate antiracist strategies into daily professional practice. It also delves into how community assets can be protective and mitigate the effects of racism, guiding professionals to recognize and leverage these strengths effectively. This resource is designed for students, pre-professionals, and early-career professionals in child and adolescent development committed to incorporating antiracist practices into their work. It serves as both an introductory overview and practical manual for applying developmental principles with an emphasis on reflection and praxis.

Dodge, Kenneth A., Children's Defensive Mindset. (Elements in Child Development) 94 pp. 2024:6 (Cambridge U. Pr., UK) <742-942>
ISBN 978-1-009-50983-1 hard ¥14,076.- (税込) GB£ 49.99 *
ISBN 978-1-009-41623-8 paper ¥4,787.- (税込) GB£ 17.00 *

The primary psychological process leading aggressive children to grow into dysfunctional adults is a defensive mindset, which encompasses a pattern of deviant social information processing steps, including hypervigilance to threat; hostile attributional biases; psychophysiological reactivity, experience of rage and testosterone release (in males); aggressive problem-solving styles; aggressogenic decision-making biases; and deficient behavioral skills. These processes are acquired in childhood and predict adult maladjustment outcomes, including incarceration and premature death. The antecedents of defensive mindset lie in early childhood experiences of trauma and threat. The Fast Track (FT) intervention was designed to improve social competence in aggressive children. A randomized controlled trial demonstrated that FT is effective in preventing externalizing psychopathology; the primary mediating factor is the reduction of defensive mindset processes. This Element concludes with insights that defensive mindset might also explain dysfunction in other realms, including school culture, parenting, marriage, the workplace, intergroup relationships, politics, and international relations.

Eekhoff, Judy K., Bion's Emotional Links: Love, Hate and Knowledge. (The Routledge Wilfred R. Bion Studies Book Series) 200 pp. 2025:5 (Routledge, UK) <742-944>

ISBN 978-1-032-88770-8 paper ¥9,289.- (税込) GB£ 32.99

In Bion's Emotional Links, Judy K. Eekhoff explores emotion as a bridge between unrepresented and represented states, highlighting the importance of both internal emotional and external relationships in the development of the mind.Informed by Bion's focus on analytic technique, Eekhoff includes clinical vignettes from her own work with patients who have endured trauma. She explores somatic processes and how effective analysis can break down unhealthy defence mechanisms employed by individuals which often leads to a perpetual cycle of retraumatising the self. Eekhoff shows how, through an understanding of dreams as a representation of the inner self and hope as a means of finding and retaining one's sense of self, barriers can be broken down to free patients from a cycle of dread and dissociation. She places the individuality of the analyst at the forefront of their vital work, eschewing a dogmatic approach while carefully nurturing and respecting traditional psychoanalytic theories. Through this important work, readers will be equipped with the tools to recognize symbiotic relationships, both those in the patient's personal life and in the relationship between analyst and analysand. Integrating Kleinian and Freudian thought with the work of Wilfred Bion, this book is an essential read for all psychoanalysts, counsellors and therapists in practice and in training.

The Three Pillars (Harmonization, Replacement, and Justice) describe an ethical path forward and away from the use of nonhuman primates in harmful research and scientific use. Conducting nonhuman primate research in an ethical way that acknowledges their moral importance requires satisfying more rigorous guidelines and regulations modeled on those that apply to similarly vulnerable human subjects, especially children and incarcerated persons. This Element argues for the moral necessity of harmonizing human and nonhuman primate research ethics, regulations, and guidelines in a way that protects all primates, human and nonhuman. The authors call for the replacement of nonhuman primates in research with human-relevant methods that do not simply shift research onto other nonhuman animals, and challenge publics, governments, and scientific communities worldwide to implement justice in the selection and use of all research subjects. This title is also available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

Of all species, human beings are uniquely capable of coordinating on long-term, large-scale cooperative projects with unfamiliar and genetically unrelated others. According to the mindshaping hypothesis, this relies on mechanisms and practices like imitation, pedagogy, normative cognition, and narrative self-constitution, which shape us into expert coordinators, without requiring time consuming and epistemically fraught attempts to read each other's minds. Mindshaping has been applied to many areas of inquiry, including game theory, shared agency, communication, the ontogeny of human cognition, the dissemination of scientific knowledge in popular media, mental illness, and the influence of social media technologies. The Routledge Handbook of Mindshaping is the first volume of its kind.
